Products made by Fisher-Price are typically made to appeal to the very young, usually infants and toddlers. However, in my most recent trip to the toy department of one local department store, my experience indicated that almost everyone was falling in love with The Sing-a-ma-jigs!™. 

So exactly what is a Sing-a-ma-jig? Well, a sing-a-ma-jig is only one member of The Sing-A-Ma-Jigs! ™ group of characters. And the toy's name is an apt description. A sing-a-ma-jig is a small plush, squeezable toy about seven inches tall, that "sings" when you press its tummy. Seems silly? Maybe. But is it fun? No doubt about that.

The Sing-a-ma-jigs!™ resemble the “Mr. Bill” character from the old Saturday Night Live television show, if you’re an SNL enthusiast.

A sing ma-jig is not easily definable as either a human or animal form, primarily because it has a round mouth, which moves along with the singing, just as the mouth was the only moving part on the claymation Mr. Bill figure.

The Sing-A-Ma-Jigs!™ Chatter, Sing and Harmonize

The Sing-a-ma-jigs!™ are collectible, because each can sing its own different song and comes in a different color. Additionally each has a different sounding "voice", but all will harmonize perfectly with each other.

Each version of the toy will sing either note-by-note, sing their own song or chatter in their own special way. All you have to do is squeeze a Sing ma jig’s hand or tummy. The second release adds five more characters to the original chorus.

“That’s so cute; I want one!” squealed my 10-year-old when I first picked up a Sing-a-ma-Jig in the toy department and started to play with it. And as we experimented with some of the other Sing-a-ma-jig figures, a pair of college-

aged young women approached us. They were laughing aloud and said that one of the girls' parents had given her The Sing-a-ma-jigs! as a graduation gift. The young ladies saw and heard us playing with them in the store and immediately picked up some of the dolls and started pressing their tummies. Before we knew it, we were all laughing and attracting more attention from other amused shoppers.

Although the toy is the only thing that comes in the box-there are no accessories or any other add-ons--the price point is not the least of this toy's broad appeal. The pure entertainment that The Sing-a-ma-jigs provide is easily worth the price.

However, as I look online for outlets carrying this cute commodity, I’m already seeing prices rise as the holidays approach. It seems that the word is spreading--we've got a best seller in the making.
